admissions
The GCSE requirements for entry into A-Level courses are listed by subject in the subjects part of the web site. In general terms students need to achieve at least five GCSE passes at Grade B. All admissions are subject to discretion of the Head of Department with whom students should consult closely.
Students already at KAS will have a series of interviews with staff in school and do not need to make a specific application to join Year 12. We offer on-going advice and guidance throughout the year and parents are invited to make an appointment to meet with Androulla Nicholas, our Careers Advisor, or James Fields, Head of Upper School, at a mutually convenient time.
External applicants are asked to complete the registration forms. In addition, we need to receive a copy of the last school report, predicted GCSE results, GCSE mock results and copies of any Educational Psychological Reports that might have been completed. Students are invited to submit a letter outlining their reasons for applying to KAS and their expectations and aspirations. This letter can also include any additional information in support of the application. Once we have received the required documentation students may then be invited for interview and to write a written response exercise. Places are offered on the basis of a day visit and interview.
School Visit and Interview
Successful applicants are invited to attend a day of interviews with relevant Heads of Departments, discussion with some KAS students and a written response exercise. We require students to bring any samples of school work with them, a portfolio of art work for example.Parents are invited to attend from 09.30 - 10.15 for a meeting with senior staff during which there will be the opportunity to ask questions.
Sixth Form Bursary Scheme
A small number of bursaries are available for prospective Year 12 students who would be unable to come to King Alfred School or to remain here without financial assistance. If you would like more information about this scheme please contact Alan Dinham, the Bursar, on 020 8457 5203.
